After graduating from Ambrose in 2017, Matthew Bowers attended Seattle Pacific University on an ROTC scholarship. Despite the generous scholarship and income from a job on campus, Matthew still came home from his first school year with drained savings and many student loans. This was Matthew’s first sign that he had no idea how to handle his finances.
Feeling lost, he dusted off a copy of the “Total Money Makeover” by Dave Ramsey and began devouring financial literacy content. He knew he had to make a change. He picked up extra shifts at Big City Coffee, working 60-hour weeks on a mission to repay his loans before returning to school in Seattle. One week before classes resumed, Matthew paid his final installment and changed his major to business finance. For the next three years, Matthew took 21 credits per semester, worked three jobs, and never took additional loans.
Throughout his financial journey, classmates, friends, and family took notice of his efforts and began to seek Matthew’s advice on budgeting, paying debts, and investing. He thoroughly enjoyed this new opportunity to coach and mentor others and decided to make a career of doing just that. After graduating in 2021, Matthew returned to Boise and began working remotely as an advisor for a firm in Bellevue, Washington. The joys of working from home quickly faded, leading Matt to search for a local firm. And in 2024, Matthew decided to move to HBW Advisory.
At HBW, Matthew is part of an experienced team of Ramsey-trusted advisors. He is excited to have called HBW home for many years and can thank his coworker and fellow church member, Eric Rodland, for opening that door. He is passionate about helping people along the path to wealth and financial freedom.
Matthew loves spending time with his family, friends, and fiancé, Morgan. You’ll find him at his parents’ house every Monday night for their weekly family dinner, and his favorite food is “Mom’s meatloaf.”
Matthew enjoys being involved with his Idaho community. He’s a member of the Eagle/Garden City Rotary Club and attends All Saints Presbyterian Church in Meridian. After work, he likes to hit the archery range, play pickleball with friends, or kick back to watch the Seahawks, Kraken, or Padres with Morgan. He also enjoys backpacking, and climbing and reaching the summit of all nine 12,000-foot peaks in Idaho is on his bucket list.
A man of many hobbies, Matthew also likes archery, cooking, and studying history, and his hidden talent is crushing karaoke. His favorite book is, “The Land Was Everything,” by Victor Davis Hanson, and his favorite movie is Frank Capra’s “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Matthew would like to visit Zagreb, Cairo, and Athens someday.
